One of the easiest ways to lose weight the natural and healthy way is to avoid harmful additives. Create your own list as you study the labels on packaged foods and drinks. Of course, this means eliminating soda drinks and most processed foods from your diet.

Choose the natural and healthy way to lose weight and eat for a longer life. That orange soda you like to drink probably has nothing resembling a real orange in it. It contains orange food coloring, high fructose corn syrup or artificial sweetener, and artificial flavoring. All of these chemicals are designed to enhance the look and taste of the drink. What they really do is slow your digestion and harm your body’s natural function.

If you like orange drinks, squeeze an orange and mix the juice slowly with unflavored sparkling water or club soda. A real orange will be sweet enough so that you won’t need sugar.

High Fructose Corn Syrup

High fructose corn syrup should be on the top of your harmful additive list at all times. It is the cheap way to sweeten sodas and other packaged foods. This substance is made from processed cornstarch using enzymes, sulfites, and acids.

High fructose corn syrup is found in baked goods, ketchup, sauces, salad dressings and ice cream, among other products. It blends in with products using artificial coloring and flavors.

High fructose corn syrup, phosphoric acid and brown food coloring are major ingredients in cola drinks. Phosphoric acid is also a rust remover.

This sucrose-fructose mixture sits in the liver where it is converted to fat. It may also leave you hungry.

Food Coloring and Artificial Flavors

There is a long list of chemical additives approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) classified as Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). These chemicals should still be on your harmful additives to avoid list. They are used in cereals, baked goods, peanut butter, candies, and gelatin among other products to mimic real flavors. Artificial flavors are added to chicken soup, chili, and other canned products.

Colors are numbered and regulated by the FDA but you don’t know what is in Red No 40, also called Allura Red. This color can be used in food, lipstick, and nail polish.

Different studies have shown that food with artificial food coloring, especially red dyed foods, can cause hyperactive reactions in children.

Eat fresh high fiber fruits and vegetables instead of foods with added artificial flavors and colors.
