So, you’re ready to lose weight.  You’ve probably read about a number of different NYC weight loss plans or programs.  Sometimes, just a new eating style can be a great kick start to a better, healthier you.  However, it’s important to find the right NYC weight loss plans and avoid the fad diets.  Crash diets often promise a speedy weight loss but they can be dangerous.  They restrict calories and nutrients to a point of causing harm to your body.  Not only are they harmful in the short run but they are typically unsustainable, causing you more work in the long run.

Medical-weight-loss-nycAvoid programs that promise quick results with little or no effort.  If the program promises you will lose more than two pounds per week consistently, it is probably too good to be true.  Healthy weight loss takes time and effort.

Most fad diets will recommend that you eliminate one or more food groups, or that you continue eating the same food repeatedly.  These diets are unhealthy because they don’t give your body the balanced nutrition that it needs.

Stay away from diets that offer little or no scientific evidence that the methods used will work.  Pay attention to whether or not the program suggests that you consult with your doctor or provides a registered dietitian or nutritionist.  If it does not it probably isn’t healthy.  Some of the current fad diets are: Intermittent Fasting, Paleo Diet, and the Raw Food Diet.

Intermittent Fasting

This plan is based on the concept of feast and famine.  However, most of the scientific evidence for this plan is controversial.  Additionally, with such low calorie intake on fasting days you may become deficient in necessary nutrients and experience side effects.

Paleo Diet

This plan encourages eating fresh fruit and vegetables.  However, it eliminates entire food groups.  This can lead to a lack of sufficient nutrition.

Raw Food Diet

On this plan, food is never cooked above 116 degrees.  This requires tedious meal preparation.  Consuming some raw foods can lead to food borne illnesses.  This plan also eliminates several food groups.

Crash diets are simply not sustainable.  They claim quick and easy weight loss but they fail to offer proper or balanced nutrition.  A gradual approach is a healthier way to lose weight and will be more sustainable in the long run.    To schedule your free consultation please click below or call (212) 759-8118.
